Northern Mongolia is a land of high mountains, taiga forest, clear lakes and emerald valleys carpeted with wildflowers. Here the nomadic Tsaatan, the Reindeer People, live as they have for centuries, as herders mounted on the backs of reindeer. After exploring the capital city of Ulaanbaatar, we trek on horseback into this remote region in search of the Reindeer People and their moving encampments. Our mounted journey continues to Lake Khovsgol, sacred to Mongolians and the deepest in Central Asia, where we relax, hike and fish along its pristine shores.
