Trekking along the Markha River through one of the world's highest inhabited plateaus, we take in spectacular views of the Great Himalayan, Ladakh, and Zanskar ranges.
Our route crosses two high passes, topping out at 18,000 feet. We travel through willow groves, patches of wild roses and pastel canyons festooned with multihued prayer flags undulating in the breeze. A chance to meet nomadic families herding their yaks and a visit to a small monastery, where butter lamps are lit in the morning and evening by an elderly nun, create a memorable cultural experience.
