Enter the realm of vertical mountain spires and the largest glaciers outside the polar regions on this classic trek into the heart of the karakorum. A rigorous trek starting in Askole follows the Baltoro Glacier past the sheer Trango Towers and onto Concordia and K2 glaciers. After a rest day in the company of mountian giants, including the Gasherbrums, we'll embark on a literally breathtaking day hike up to k2 base camp at 16,500 feet. Even at this point, we have not yet attained the highest elevation of this epic trek. By the time we ascend Gondogoro La at 18,368 feet, we should be well acclimated and steady on our well-muscled legs. From here on out, it's all downhill back to the green valleys where hardy residents cultivate irrigated fields of cereals and fruit orchards with the bounding waters liberated from the frigid ice lakes above. This is a challenging adventure beyond the limits of the habitable world and to test the limits of the experienced hiker.
