Join Mekong explorer Mick O'Shea and a host of local and international experts on an unforgettable journey that celebrates the wonder and diversity of the Mekong. The most mysterious of the world’s great river systems, it forms the central artery of life through mainland Southeast Asia. Over the course of millennia this immense river system has become home to some of the world’s most diverse natural, cultural and historical landscapes. Peoples from unique ethnic groups live in harmony with the natural cycles of the river and its timeless bounty of water, nutrient rich silt and fisheries. Times are changing as a series of mega-dams threaten to forever alter the ecological cycles upon which this diversity evolved. Our trip takes us through four nations–– Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam ––and 375 miles of the Mekong. We will visit two UNESCO World Heritage Sites , observe the extremely rare Orcaella brevirostris, the Irrawaddy dolphin, and learn first hand from the cultures of the river. This is a journey for those who are seeking to understand the geopolitical and ecological dynamics are shaping the future of the Mekong.
