- Cultural Touring
In 2007, Nevada Public Radio listeners were treated to a tour of a lifetime with a two-week excursion through Vietnam and Cambodia.
Now, KNPR brings the oases of the Great Indian desert to life in a custom tour where pastel-toned cities are surpassed only by the beauty of their inhabitants’ flowing, sequined saris. Welcome to Rajasthan, where warmth exudes not only from the dunes, but from the Raj-era hospitality in luxury hotels and restaurants, the remarkable landmarks and the remote villages we visit. Our adventure extends into the bordering region of Uttar Pradesh, specifically Agra, where we are treated to the plush Agra Fort and the superb Taj Mahal. The high point of the jouney is the centuries-old Pushkar Camel Fair. As the desert air cools, thousands of camel traders and religious pilgrims converge on the whitewashed village of Pushkar. Camel races, women attired in riotously vibrant skirts and scarves, dancing, acrobatics and handicrafts inundate the tawny sands.
